Three of the plaques are about 12''x 12''and the longer plaque is about 17''x 8". He then sanded the tops of all four pieces so I would have a smooth surface to paint on.
Here are the wood pieces after they were cut, sanded and then primed. These pieces are a bit smaller than the inspiration art partly due to the fact that we didn't want to have to spend more on the larger wood plank.
I then just filled in each image which was a little bit of a tedious process. Little Lowell loves to "help" whenever I have the paint brushes out so I usually worked on this process when he was napping.
After I painted each image I filled in wording part of each plaque. This tiger shark was definitely the most difficult of the set because of all of the shading, but I am happy with the way it turned out.
The blue crab is still definitely Little Lowell's favorite.
(Manta Ray)
(Starfish)
Here are all four of the completed plaques. I sprayed the plaques with a polycrilic spray that I had left over. The spray gives them a nice sheen and a more professional look. In total this project cost about $15 for all of the wood and the craft paint.
We are going to wait to hang them up in Little Lowell's room until we get the surfboard hung up so we don't have to move things around twice. I am on the hunt for a boat paddle so we can use the paddle to hold these up using rope.

This is absolutely amazing!!! I just sent you a message asking how you got the images onto your boards from the PB images! I'm so glad I didn't complete this project already, because it would've looked terrible w/o knowing that you did it on wood, and not canvas, which is what I was planning to do!
If you have a Tai Pan trading close to you, that is where I bought a paddle for my son's ocean0themed room. Thank you SO SO much for sharing this project!!! You are so talented!
I'd like to know how you got the images themselves. Is it possible to share?
I just took a screen shot on my computer and then printed the pictures from my printer. I then used the image to trace it onto the wooden board. Check out Jaime's blog at http://thatsmyletter.blogspot.com/ for more info and a better explanation on this technique
