Surf Room Evolution

This was a big weekend for Little Lowell's room.  All of the projects that we have been working on over the past month were finally ready to be added to the room.
Lowell added saw tooth hangers to the surf art.  The wooden plaques are made out of pine so they are very light and were not going to require any heavy duty hardware.

Next he added the hardware for the surf racks and mounted them on the wall. The surf racks got D-ring hangers and can hold 75 punds each. This might have been overkill for the surfboard, but our little guy is going to be playing under this thing so better safe than sorry!  It was a bit of a guessing game for how far apart to hang the racks, but luckily he got it right on the first try.
The ceilings in Little Lowell's room vault up to 12 feet so the board is pretty high up. You can see in the picture below that the board is all the way above the door.
Someone was pretty happy to finally have his old board out of the garage, especially since the surf forecast in Arizona is not looking good.
We also got to move the refinished nightstand and dresser upstairs. I think the furniture looks better now than it did 10 years ago.
After hanging the surfboard on the rack we put up the surf art under the board.
Here is the dresser and nightstand after Lowell sanded them last month. He finished staining both pieces last week, but they had been airing out in the garage.
We were so happy to finally be able to put the furniture in the room after all of Lowell's hard work. The dresser was centered under the surf art.  We also have a mirror that matches this furniture set, but we figured our toddler would appreciate the surf art much more.  Little Lowell took a three hour nap yesterday so that was a big help in getting all of this work wrapped up.  When he woke up he pointed at each of the pieces one by one and said "kite, fish, night, crab and applepus." In baby translation this means that he thinks the manta ray is a kite, the shark is a fish, he sees stars at night, he knows what a crab is and applepus is how we say octopus in this house.
Little Lowell hasn't shown much interest in the top of the dresser so for now so I added the more fragile objects in the room.
Here is a better view of the entire wall.

This is Little Lowell's view when he is playing on the floor.

One last view of the surf board on the wall.
The bed is the last big project that Lowell needs to tackle.  He is going to strip the blue bed and stain it the same shade as the nightstand and dresser. Although I do miss the nursery, I am in love with this room.  We always joke about having a surf-themed room in Arizona, but it seems like a good fit for our little guy's personality.  Little Lowell now wants to spend just as much time in this room as he does in his playroom.
